7 Quick Takes Friday

1. What a fun couple of weeks it’s been. First, there was the writing conference. Then, we took a trip back east to see my sister and brother-in-law. We met my other sister and her family there and spent the weekend on my oldest sister’s houseboat. It was the best time!

The kids tried wakeboarding and loved it, and Mike got a few runs in too…

The fish in our cove were well-fed (the kids literally spent hours feeding them)…

And the sunsets were beautiful…

It was a great trip and super relaxing–the perfect way to end the summer. :)

2. Something else water related: my writing friend Mary just announced a very cool contest at her blog. Stop by and check it out. It’s about beaches, photos, and a book. And it sounds fun. She’s going to be one of the judges, too.

3. On a sad note, our fourteen-year-old cat Chester is missing. A couple of weeks ago, he started acting strange and wouldn’t eat. We thought he was just hot (it was over 100 degrees that day), but he disappeared that night and hasn’t come back. Needless to say, with all the pet troubles we’ve had lately, the kids are missing him. Chester was one of those laid-back cats…

who didn’t mind when the kids dressed him up…

or when they covered him with little stuffed animals…

And even though the kids are still hoping Chester will come home, Mike and I are unfortunately pretty sure that won’t happen. We will miss that sweet cat.

4. On a brighter note, I happened upon this site and had to share it, since I love baking. Talk about being creative.

5. And speaking of baking, I’ve got a post over at Hearts at Home with my rice flour cookie recipe in case you didn’t catch it here a while ago.

6. For those of you who are writers, Literary Agent Chip MacGregor had an excellent post this week about the future of books and thoughts on effective use of social media. I highly recommend heading over there and reading.

7. Last, a note about Mom-Monday: You won’t want to miss this next one. It’s going to be all about you, with a fun giveaway involved. Be sure and stop by!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. Great water pics. Makes me want to be on the water right now. Sorry to learn about your cat. Love those pics.! Our dog has experienced the same loving humiliation. Hope you cat is found soon. Finally, great tip to head to Chip's blog.~ Wendy

  2. So cool about the houseboat! That sounds fun. :-)I'm sorry about Chester. :-( One of our cats is just like that. He adores the boys and they do all sorts of stuff to him and he doesn't care. Great links! I hope I can get back later to check them out. :-)

  3. We did have a cat disappear for nearly 2 weeks and then reappear, happy and healthy. Someone had clearly been taking care of her, so she was in no hurry to get back. Hope all works out for you.

  4. Seeing Chester don his funny hats and covered with munchkin furry critters himself made me laugh! Thanks, Ginny! I needed that. Seriously.I have a 3 yr old and 4 month old with me a home from sun up to sun down this week.. and the next two.. until preschool starts! Lord, have mercy! [really]

  5. Genny,I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet kitty. I remember when my 14-year-old cat disappeared and didn't come home. I asumed that she went off and died like cats can do. It was a long, happy relationship that I will always cherish. You have some great shots of him! Maybe yours will return safely; it happens.

  6. Beautiful photos. I'd love to spend time on a houseboat someday, it looks wonderful.(In fact, Jay and I spent half the month dreaming up ways for him to telecommute so that we could live on a boat for 6 months. Never going to happen, but what a fun dream…)

  7. PS I hope Chester does find his way home somehow, he looks like a real sweetheart and was obviously very loved.

  8. I'm so sorry about Chester! We have 2 kitties…Patch is 14 and Pepper is 7. I worry every time Patch goes outside, but~knock on wood~there's still some ooomph! in the old gal yet!

  9. What a cool cat. Sorry about him missing. I hope you found him and that he's better! Also, what a way to wrap up summer vacation! Fun! It's so nice to get out, isn't it?
