It was fun until we discovered this

Remember when I told you about the field near our house?
Well, not far from it is a creek.
My son and I took a walk there the other day.
I shot a couple of pictures on my phone while he was skipping rocks (or more like throwing them… “Get a picture of this splash, Mom!”),
and while he was looking for minnows.
It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun.
Until I looked down and saw this:
which I’m pretty positive is poison oak
and which was right in the middle of where we’d been walking.
Needless to say, I got a tad freaked out, cut our nature walk a little short, hurried home, and told my son to, “Get in the shower and scrub with soap. Really good.

Thankfully though, neither of us ended up with a poison oak rash. Which, having grown up on acreage and having seen my fair share of poison oak as a kid, I was more than glad about!  :)

  1. Good thing you guys were not affected by it, that would be awful! It must be nice to have so much nature to explore practically right in your backyard!

  2. Itchy and ouchy!!! Glad you were paying attention! I was just on a photoshoot this week and we were pretty deep in some grass when I looked over to the right and some some poison ivy. I backed away real quick! That kids mom would have been a bit upset had I strayed into it with her son!!!I've been neglecting my blog and have missed reading yours too. I'm trying to catch up! I like your new header pic! Cozy!

  3. Kelly, I had to laugh because when I did a photoshoot recently (to get new headshots to use for writing stuff), we were out in a field for part of it, and I kept checking my jeans for ticks. I'm paranoid that way! lol At least there was no poison oak out there that day.Genny

  4. Good thing you recognized it and acted fast. I just looked it up today for work and I'm still not sure I could identify it. Luckily I don't think it's in IA. Great pics btw. Drop by and link up!alicia

  5. Don't you just want to scream when that happens! It happened to us during the summer frequently! We would be having the best time and all of a sudden we would discover poison ivy! Darn it. LOVE your picture in the blog header. So pretty.

oh gosh- i don't think i would have even thought anything about it until we'd both gotten rashes. Great pictures

  7. Great photos with a phone! I live in the country & I still am not sure what poison oak or ivy looks like! and last year was my 1st encounter with a tick in my yard! no one around here had seen them. Of course it latches on to me & I get an allergic reaction to it, just like bees & wasps. my 1st visit! great photos ( I am still learning, LOL)Happy WW. Faythe @Grammymousetails

  8. Oh my goodness, so thankful for your quick eye! I've never had Poison Oak and would never want to!

We don't poison oak in Oz – sounds horrible. I love walking along creeks, and when I was little I would look for tadpoles. Great photo of the splash!

  10. LOL I was studying the pic, looking for a snake or gator. Poison oak, I didn't even know what that looks like. I'm glad you're all okay!
