My favorite present…
Mike got me a new camera for Christmas and it’s my absolute favorite present.
I was a picture-taking nut this week.
I still have to learn the ins and outs of photography and what all the buttons and controls mean, but at least I’m getting clear photos now.
(Us on Christmas Eve.)
(This guy used to be small enough to take a bath in a bowl. Now he’s so big he sleeps in a doghouse.)
I had fun taking pictures of the food too…
(My sister-in-law surprised Mike with the idea of making Ebelskivers because he used to have them when he was little. I’d never heard of them, but they tasted great. And the kids had a blast making them.)
If anyone has photography tips or helpful Web sites for beginning users of digital SLR cameras, I’d love to hear about them. And thanks Michelle for the tip on the camera!

You have a darling hubby — and btw, that's a great picture of the two of you. I'm sure there are lots of photography blogs out there you can find great tips at. As for me, I'm an old fashioned point and shoot girl (not that I wouldn't like nicer, faster, more modern) but hey, just one more thing for me to worry about losing, breaking, not being able to use! :)

Crazy Working Mom, it's a Nikon D3000. I absolutely love it, but, like I said, I still have a lot to learn! :)

I have a Canon SLR camera and the best way to learn is practice – just play heaps in different conditions, lighting, movement, detail extra. It can annoy people around you but just ignore their comments!!Photoshop is an excellent tool but can be tricky to use. I use it to create different affects that I can't get when using iPhoto (we have Apples).Check out https://www.deviantart.com/for ideas (select Photography) – there is some spectacular photos to aim for!!!Have fun:)

You will love your DSLR… I have a Cannon Digital Rebel xTi and have LOVED it! The best thing you could do is practice, practice, practice – especially in the manual settings and without a flash. I can't believe what I have been able to capture without a flash! Enjoy!

I've had mine for several years and I've been "winging it" ever since. Sometimes my photos turn out good…sometimes not. My new nephew-in-law is a great amateur photographer and over the weekend he said he'd help me…to which I replied…"Teach me, oh great photo guy!" If I pick up any pointers from him I'll make sure to pass them along.Until then…there's no right or wrong way to do art…at least that's what I tell my kids…so play away with your camera and have fun doing it! So far it looks likes you're doing a great job!

Yah! You are obviously loving your new camera (which one did you get?).You can always find tons of tutorials on Youtube. I heart faces has had some good tutorials as well.My advice…read the manual. If you got a Canon I would be more than happy to share some tips via email. Let me know. :)

YAY for the new camera!! The only tip I have is buy a "digital field guide" for your camera. It goes way more in depth than the manual.Have FUN!!

How fun! We love our camera too… I don't know that I have any tips that weren't already shared, but one thing that helps me is simply getting close. Truthfully, the auto setting works great. ;) Happy New Year!
