This was not how my day was supposed to go
Sound familiar?
We’ve all had our day mapped out and then watched our plan go out the window.
It seems like that’s happened to me more than a few times lately.
Like last Wednesday…
I’d planned on helping in my kids’ classrooms in the morning, going to lunch with a friend in the afternoon, and going to a meeting at a coffee shop with my writing group that night.
The day was going to be a relaxing break from my normal routine and I was looking forward to it.
But then Mike found out that morning he had a business dinner to go to after work, and my plans for the coffee shop got cancelled.
At least I still have lunch plans, I thought.
But that changed too when my son came into our room complaining that his eyes were bothering him. He’d been saying this for a couple of days, so I called the doctor and they asked me to bring him in.
I got my daughter off to school, called both of my kids’ teachers to let them know I couldn’t come in to help, and got ready to take my son to his appointment. On the way to the doctor’s I called my friend to cancel our lunch plans. (Sniff.)
I guess that’s how it is with mom-hood, though.
We can make all the plans we want, but there’s no way to predict those middle of the night throw-ups or the phone calls from school. You can’t schedule ear infections and tummy aches or the times your kids really need to talk, even if it’s 10:30 at night and you’re so tired you can barely keep your eyes open.
Plan or no plan, things just happen when you have kids.
But in the end, it’s really those things that are important.
So the next time you have a day that doesn’t quite turn out how you wanted it to, try not to get discouraged. Try to remember that what you’re doing is important.
And you can always do what I did, too….schedule a massage the next day and make up for it. :)
Hi Genny… I enjoyed my visit to your blog, I found through “Becomming Me’s Blog as I went for a visit , I know what you mean about days like these. for me I finally figured that God had other places for me to be for a reason., I know one day I needed to go somewhere and last minute changes took place, later I found out the route I was going to take ended up in a 6 hour traffic Jam due to a really bad accident. isn’t it awesome how he speaks to us even in the everyday events and plans we make. God Bless Lorie
What a great post. I love your blog. Thanks for stopping by mine. Your definitely going on my blog feed reader.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Hope your day goes more smoothly tomorrow. . . enjoy that massage!
I think we all have days like these. Like you said, we can plan all we like but if you want to remain sane, you have to expect a few snafus in the plan. Sorry you missed out on your fun stuff!
Genny, nice to meet you! Thanks for commenting on my blog.I’ve had these type of days and I just have to surrender myself to the fact that things are not going to go according to plan. Our littlest foster daughter has been sick lately (she’s getting better) and her illnesses through a wrench in several of my plans but being there to comfort her and take care of her was far more important and rewarding!I do like your idea of scheduling a massage though! :) Actually, I think I’m going to arrange a “girls night out” with some friends to go see the Sex In the City movie when it comes out. I’ll leave it up to hubby to deal with the crisis that might arise. :)
