A way that you can send your love to Newtown, CT

I’ve been rocked by the recent tragedy in Newtown, as I know all of you have been too. The news gripped me at my core…

and hasn’t let go.

I woke up Saturday morning with such a sense that I needed to do something.

All I could think about was those precious children, their parents, their families… the community facing such heartache. (I couldn’t put makeup on;  the tears wouldn’t stop.)

I needed to reach out, somehow.

Just the night before, I’d read a post over at (in)courage about an organization called moreloveletters.com (people writing encouraging letters to strangers).

And I realized that’s what I could do.

That’s what I could invite you to do too: take some time to write a letter of love and comfort to the families who are suffering so deeply right now.

After talking to Newtown’s local newspaper, The Newtown Bee, I got this address where we can send letters (this organization is working directly with the families impacted):

Newtown Youth and Family Services

15 Berkshire Road

Sandy Hook, CT 06482

I also got information about where to send a donation, if that’s how you’d like to help:

Please direct donations to the following priority fund for the immediate needs of the victims.

https://newtown.uwwesternct.org/

Check donations may be mailed to:

Sandy Hook School Support Fund
c/o Newtown Savings Bank
39 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470

or may be dropped off beginning Monday at any Newtown Savings Bank branch location. For questions please call 800-461-0672

Last, you can stop by TheMomInitiative and pay tribute to those who were killed in this terrible tragedy and to the families who lost loved ones. You can add your prayers in the comment section over there and they will be compiled and sent to the families.

So will you join me, friends?

Will you take a minute to send some comfort to these families, or make a donation?

I know our words seem so inadequate at a time like this, but maybe just knowing that others care will help these families…

Thanks, everyone. Let’s shower this community with love and support this Christmas and beyond.

Please spread the word and share this post or the information in it so others can join in too.

*Mom-Monday posts will resume next week.

    1. Olivia,
How sweet. I was told that the address for the Newtown Youth and Family Services on Berkshire Road is the address to use for mail, as that organization is working directly with the families.

  4. Thank you so much, Genny, for sharing this. So many of us have been wanting to show our love, concern and prayers for these hurting families, but we didn’t know how to do it in a practical way. I will be sharing this post on my social media outlets in the hope that many will respond in love to reach out and let these families know that there are many who truly care and praying for them! Blessings in Christ, Kelly

    1. Kelly,
Thanks so much for helping spread the word. When I wrote my letter to one of the families, my words felt SO inadequate, but it is my hope and prayer that just knowing people care will help. Thank you again,
      Genny

  5. Such a great way for the families to know that they are loved, even by strangers. I would love for you to link this up at my Gift of Giving series to help spread the word. Thanks for sharing this!
