Kauai Vacation!

I don’t even know where to start; Kauai is such a beautiful place. It was so nice to be able to spend time away with Mike, just the two of us. I missed the kids a lot, but I don’t think I’ve relaxed so much in the last twelve years I’ve been a mom! (I read four books while we were there!)

If you ever get a chance to go to Kauai, I highly recommend taking the time to explore the coast. The entire island is about 33 miles long, so you can just make a day trip of it, which is what Mike and I did.

We rented a car and headed out, stopping along the way at a bunch of different sites. Our first stop was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen: the Kilaueau Lighthouse.

The lighthouse is also a bird sanctuary. It’s hard to see here, but there were hundreds of white birds on the hillside.

The lighthouse (it’s being restored).

The view from the end of the lookout where the lighthouse is–the northernmost point in Kauai.

We also stopped at a cave near Ke’e Beach:

Here’s Mike underneath the overhang.

and at a beautiful place called Limahuli Gardens:

The countryside was breathtaking:

and there was so much to see. The weather was great too; it rained a little on a couple of the days we were there, but it was a warm rain and it didn’t last. (People would just stay where they were by the pool or on the beach right through the rain, not even phased.) And I love how the locals forecast the weather:

(I’ll show you more photos of our trip next week; there were just too many beautiful places to put into one post!)

I hope you all had a great week last week. It’s good to be back. :)

p.s. The books I read on vacation were awesome. Big recommendations for: The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Holy Discontent by Bill Hybels, Fearless by Max Lucado, and Just Too Busy by my friend Joanne Kraft (I’ll be posting more about her book on Thursday)! Great, great reads.
