Photos from the writing conference

The writing conference last weekend was great! We had an incredible lineup of speakers and about 165 writers and illustrators, all gathered together in one place. Here are some of the awesome volunteers (many of them published authors/illustrators) who helped the day to be a huge success:

As always, I had a great time working alongside my friends and SCBWI Co-Regional Advisors Patricia Newman and Erin Dealey:

Patti (left) and Erin (middle) are both picture book authors with several wonderful books under their belts.

Be sure to pop by their sites and check them out, or follow them on twitter. (Patti: https://twitter.com/PatriciaNewman and Erin: https://twitter.com/ErinDealey.) You might remember that Patti did a giveaway here a while ago of her latest book Nugget on the Flight Deck... an awesome book, especially for boys!

It was fun to see so many of my writing friends that I hadn’t seen in a while, like Margaret O’Hair – author of five picture books, her latest titled My Kitten. (It’s darling; check it out!)…

My Nuts and Bolts of Writing and Illustrating for Children session started bright and early at 8:00 am, but we had a lot of fun. I loved being able to share some of my own writing journey and tips, as well as connect with many others who are starting out along the same path.

It was a day filled with information and inspiration, and I’m already looking forward to next year!

What about you? Have you ever been to a conference of any kind? I’d love to hear about it!

*Help! A quick question for you bloggers: if you have a Blogger blog, are you having trouble uploading photos? I had to switch to the old post editor to get these photos loaded, and this is as large as I could get them to display. Any tips would be appreciated! I’m getting an internal error when I try to upload photos on the new editor in Blogger… Can you email me or comment if you have any tips? :)

  1. Looks like you had a great time. I love it when you post photos of your events. Sort of makes me feel like I was there, too! Have never been to a writing conference but it's on my list of "things I want to do."Peace and blessings.Jeanine

  2. Genny, Blogger just blows my mind! : ) I can't understand it for the life of me. I am glad your writers conference went well. How wonderful!

  3. Looks like a fantastic time and your sessions sounds AMAZING. Someday someday. :)When I was on Blogger, I gave up on the uploader and started using the html from my flickr feed instead. SO much easier, and I had a lot more control over pictures sizes (I like 'em bigger and even Blogger's biggest size just doesn't cut it). Let me know if you want to try it and need a walk through on how to post. :)

  4. Thanks, you guys. :)Cecily, I just may take you up on that offer. Thank you, thank you! I'm going to look into flickr.

  5. How wonderful. Sounds like a great day of learning. Sigh. Not sure that will ever be me. Thanks for sharing for WW!

  6. You are so cute and I"m glad you had a great time at the conference! I haven't had any trouble with blogger pics uploading but i haven't done it since Sunday night either – ha! I usually change the size in the html, especially on the portrait one b/c it's just not big enough.I may look into Cecily's tip too!!

  7. Looks like such a great time! I have so many children's books written and just need to do something with them besides just read them to my kids…I use the html from Photobucket to upload pics to my blog. I re-adjusted the size for my blog so that I could use BIG photos. (like Cecily, I like my pics BIG ;)

  8. What a wonderful conference! You and everyone else looks to be having a delightful time!

  9. I haven't attended any conference since I'd left the corporate world… and that's been 6 years! :)I use Windows Live Writer to write all my posts and to upload photos. It's free –just download it. I could never go back to the Blogger upload again after that. You have so much more control over your photos, the layout –everything. Plus, what you see is what you get; unlike if you write your post on Blogger where sometimes things get all wonky after you've hit "Publish." Good luck with all that. :)

  10. I'm so jealous. I need to go to a writing conference one of these days.
