I am SO not going to sweat the small stuff…

Thanks for stopping by for Mom-Monday.

I found this post in my blog editor the other day and realized I never published it. I know it’s not an accident that I happened upon it again because I’ve been guilty of sweating the small stuff more than a few times this week.

I needed the reminder that each day truly is a gift and a blessing…

———-
I’m blinking back tears. Mike just sent me an email that had me shaking my head, crying, and feeling heartbroken for a family I don’t even know.

The email was a prayer from a son,

and a letter from a wife,

to the man they both just lost in an accident–

a man that Mike used to work with.

When you read things like that,

and you picture a wife who will go to bed alone,

and a son who won’t have his dad there at his graduation, or his wedding, or the birth of his first child,

it hits you in the stomach like a punch,

except more powerful.

And suddenly things like the never-ending piles of laundry that need to be folded,

or the fact that my kids still need reminding to put their dishes in the dishwasher,

don’t matter anymore.

The little things that sometimes irritate,

are suddenly tiny,

and insignificant.

What matters are the people I love and making sure they know I love them.

What matters is life,

daily,

moment by moment.

A blue sky over my head,

laughter down the hall,

a mug filled with coffee,

walks to the park with my kids,

clean water,

a soft bed.

What matters is the air I breathe and the fact that I can breathe it.

What matters is the love I know,

and the love I can give.

So I’m off to hug my kids,

and kiss Mike,

and be more thankful than ever for the life that God has given me.

I’m SO not going to sweat the small stuff today.

What about you? Do you find yourself sweating the small stuff sometimes? What do you do to turn it around? Leave a comment and share with other moms!

  1. aw thanks for the reminder! it is so easy to get caught up in all the details and all the petty things.

  2. These things help to bring my life into perspective. The little moments in life that I tend to forget about but are so important in life. Thank you for sharing this post.

  3. Thank you for the reminder. I am a perpetual-sweat-the-smallest-detail offender. I need reminders like this. All I want to do now is call my friends and love on my family. Thanks for the much needed perspective! Have a great day! :)

  4. Interesting…I forgot about this Monday meme and when I hopped over to look at it today it was perfect for what I had just written about today. My perspective needs to be sharpened on a daily basis and that means to stop complaining and realize there are others who are in much worse places in life. Thank you for the opportunity to link up. Off to read some of the link ups.

  5. I think that all of us need a reminder like that every now that then. So thanks!
