While I’m writing about potty-training and naps…

Things will be a little sparse around here for the next few days. I’m writing an article for a parenting magazine that’s due next week, and I’ve also got a lot of meetings scheduled for the publishing company I work part-time for.

So…

I’ll miss joining Angie in her “Wordful” Wednesdays and Janice and Susan in their Wordless Wednesdays. But I’ll be back at it next week.

The article I’m writing is about parenting toddlers–tips on things like potty-training and naps. You might’ve seen my tweet looking for tips or tricks. In fact, if you have anything that works (or worked) particularly well for your toddlers, be sure to leave a comment, and I just might use it in my article.

I’m also blogging at Mamapedia and Hearts at Home on Wednesday, and 5MinutesforFaith on Friday, so stop by if you have a minute.

On a different note: I’ve been having problems with my RSS feed and email notifications going out. If you’re subscribed to my blog and haven’t been getting regular updates (or any at all), I apologize. I’m trying to figure out what the problem is and will hopefully have it fixed soon.

Have a great week, everyone! And don’t forget to stop back by on Mom-Monday. I’ll be sharing information about kids and exercise and would love to have you chime in.

Talk soon,

  1. I haven't been back out here in a while. Good to see you.Potty training…. For both my kids we took a particular long weekend and devoted ourselves to "Potty School" with lots of rewards. By the end of the weekend, both of them had the tee-tee down pretty well. And being on the weekend, both hubs and I were involved. Also, I didn't use pull-up type diapers except at sleep times (nap-time/night).

  2. Naps – pay attention to what the kids need. My almost-3-year-old is now ready for his nap around 2 instead of noon like he has always done. If I pushed for him to nap at noon, he'd end up not napping at all. But putting him down at 2 has been working great. Also, when they are no longer needing naps, keep enforcing a quiet time where they sit alone and look at books or play with dolls or maybe watch TV if they don't do that all day long anyway. We call ours "Gracie time." It give mom and kid much-needed time to wind down.

  3. IMO potty training is more like parent training. More about us getting into the routine of helping them recognize their cues.

  4. Congrats on the article! I hope you get it done. I'm actually in the midst of nap and potty training years. :-) My naps are down pretty well, but potty training I'm much more relaxed about. I was so excited yesterday because my two year old was running around naked and I went to look for him. Lo and behold, he climbed up on the toilet and went himself! It was awesome. Of course, earlier he'd pottied on the floor… LOLHave a great weekend!

  5. Our philosophy in potty training mirrors our life philosophy– everything in its time! I stressed about potty training my oldest. When his third birthday came and went and he was still have accidents, I panicked, but then I let go. I decided to wait it out, and when he was ready (just a few short months later), it was a breeze. I decided to adopt the same attitude with my daughter, but one day before she was even two-and-a-half, she said, "Diapers are for babies," and promptly switched to panties! In this case, trying to mold her to my expectations and timing would have hindered her! Everything in its time…potty training, weaning, learning to read, leaving home… left to their own desires, each child will eventually take the leap!(As an aside, by letting the children potty train on their own timetable, nighttime potty training went hand in hand with day training.)

  6. Though it's been 11 or so years since I potty trained a little one (Missy Moo isn't there yet), I don't recall there being any particular trick or bribery system that I used to ensure success.I will need some advice (at least a refresher course) for Lyric though. She is already interested in the toilet and all of its properties but I'm not ready for it yet! Good luck on your article.

  7. Sounds like you're going to be busy! I'm looking forward to your article though, so good luck!

  8. You sound like a busy lady! Hope your article goes well. We were potty trained in less than a week at our house! I think you have to find what works best for your child's personality.

  9. It's been many years since potty training happened in my house. No real tips from me…I just waited until they were ready and it seemed to go fairly smoothly. I also put cheerios in toilet to give my son something to 'aim' at:)

  10. Hmm…it has been a few years since I potty trained my five boys and I remember them all being different. I think potty training can be as individual as each child. But in general I would say, "practice makes perfect." Just keep doing it, be consistant, and before you know it, they have it down. I have never met an adult who wasn't potty trained!Which leads me to believe there are many successful methods.

  11. I read that you are writing an article about potty training. I am a Mom who invented and patented Potty Training Rewards. It is very popular with parents. I ask that you view my website and watch the online demo. There are many testimonials including one by the actress Brooke Shields. I would really like to have you include potty training rewards in your article for Parenting Magazine. I would be happy to have you talk to customers who say PTR really worked for their children. I would love to hear from you. You may contact me at brenda@pottytrainingrewards.com
